Hyderabad February 2018: The
Sinus diseases and their complications are on rise in the recent years. More so
worrying is more and more patients are coming in complication stage. Recently
we treated one patient with long standing sinusitis which encroached to right
eye and he lost the vision completely in the right eye. He approached us after
4 days of the loss of vision and fortunately with optic nerve (nerve of vision)
decompression he recovered completely. Such complication cases are on rise. This
is happening because of lack of awareness about the sinusitis. With good health
education not only the complications and even the sinusitis also can be
prevented. To educate the citizens, more so sinus patients we are conducting
this camp and during these three days at 5.00pm we are conducting INTERACTIVE
HEALTH TALK ON SINUSITIS.
Let
us see how a sinusitis develops: Usual common cold caused by influenza virus is
selflimiting conditions and 98% of times it subsides without treatment. In 1-2%
of patients this progresses to acute bacterial sinusitis. This progression can
be prevented by using oxymetazoline or xylometazoline nose drops twice daily
for 5 days and take plain simple hot water steam. Once bacterial sinusitis
develops it needs antibiotic course for 7-10 days and if not taken properly it
will lead to Chronic Bacterial Sinusitis. This may get worsen with addition of
Fungal sinusitis. Untreated fungal sinusitis can lead to complications.
