WORLD HEART DAY 2020

The World Heart Day came into existence, when World Heart Federation started an initiative World Heart Day during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. On 29th September since 2013, the World Heart Federation marks the day is marked as World Heart Day.

  3. Dr NARSARAJU,President Elect
  4. Dr RAJIV GARG , Honorary Secretary, CSI Telangana chapter
  5. Executive Committee

This year, Cardiological Society of India, Telangana Chapter is organizing an Online Seminar on 29th September 2020. The seminar will be based on this year’s theme of the World Heart Day ‘Use Heart to Beat Cardiovascular Disease’. This is in keeping with today’s scenario of the global Covid 19 pandemic, wherein everyone from healthcare providers to citizens - are trying to mitigate the impact of heart disease, with a well thought out strategy to overcome it.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death on the planet. It has many causes: from smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, to air pollution, and rare and neglected conditions such as Chagas Disease and cardiac amyloidosis.

In the time of COVID-19, CVD patients are faced with a double-edged threat. Not only are they more at risk of developing severe forms of the virus, but they may also be afraid to seek ongoing care for their hearts.

We have to take care of our heart and help safeguard the heart of our loved ones. During the pandemic, there has been a problem in getting timely help to reach healthcare facilities. CSI Telangana requests citizens not to delay any heart related issue and reach out to the nearest hospital. This is also important for those who are elderly and have co-morbid conditions including heart related issues.

The humans have seen many developments over the past many centuries. So has been the management of the diseases. Previously, infectious diseases use to cause more death globally. Thanks to the immunization schedules and vaccines that have come into existence to combat the dreadful infections and have led to eliminate or eradicate many dreadful infections like small pox, polio and others.

With decrease in infection, there was an increase in noncommunicable diseases due to development in all aspects. Ease of access to everything man needs from switching of the fan to accessing the satellite and the moon, mankind has invited the rise in noncommunicable diseases to such an extent that there is epidemic proportions globally.

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the most common cause of death worldwide. The interesting feature here is that most of the risk factors leading to cardiovascular diseases are preventable. It is better to prevent, rather than cure the illness. The awareness regarding the impact of the risk factors and how to prevent them by making GOOD HEART  HABITS (exercise, timely food intake, water intake, fresh fruits, cutting down the junk foods, yoga, meditation) and breaking down the HARD habits (smoking, alcohol, stress, fat foods, inactivity) is the whole essence behind this ‘World Heart Day.
