Prasad, Former Chief Scientist & Head, CSIR; Dr. Prabodh S. Halde, Head-Technical Regulatory Affairs, Marico Limited; Mr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, President, Telangana Oil Industries and Trade Association; Mr Priyam Patel, Vice President, N.K. Proteins Pvt Ltd, (leading producers/ marketers of cottonseed oil in the world). The panellists deliberated on several issues concerning the prospects of cottonseed oil production&regulatory challenges faced by the cottonseed industry. The Conclave also hosted sessions on best usage of cottonseed meal in feed formation, nutritional aspects and future prospects along with a session on marketing practices to promote cottonseed oil and discussion on price outlook. The event was a huge success with a participation of more than 250 delegates from all over the country

According to Mr. Atul Chaturvedi, President, SEA, “India produces about 13.0 lakh tons of Cottonseed oil and gaining popularity among the consumers.  Cottonseed oil is preferred oil by the organised food industry for the unique frying properties of the oil which keeps our namkeens and snacks fresh for a long period of time.  Cottonseed oil is competitively priced when compared to other oils, which helps increase its acceptability. We are delighted at the response to this conclave and hope that the inputs from the Conclave will positively benefit the cottonseed oil processing industry and trade particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”

According to Mr. Sandeep Bajoria, Chairman, AICOSCA, "India is now the largest cotton producing country in the world overtaking China and USA and producing between 360-370 lakh bales (170 kgs. Each) of cotton in a year.  According to the latest estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB), the Central Government Body (under Ministry of Textiles), for estimating production, consumption, import and export of cotton during a season, cotton production in India in the crop year 2017-18was 365 lakh bales (of 170 kgs. each) and would be 330 lakh bales for the ongoing 2018-19 season. The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, AP & Telangana are the largest producers of Cotton seed in the country and will be the direct beneficiaries of the increased demand for cottonseed oil. We hope that the valuable insights from the different sessions will help spread awareness about cottonseed and help to enhance the consumption of cottonseed oil which is ideal for deep frying and used as a yardstick for measuring the flavour and odour qualities of other edible oils. "

Adding to this Dr. B V Mehta, Executive Director, SEA of India said, “Cotton seed oil is among the most common vegetable oils used in the United States- referred to as American’s original vegetable oil, it has been a part of American diet since the 1800’s and has been in high demand among the consumers since then in USA. The primary use of cottonseed oil is for cooking and it is used for frying, deep frying and baking. Cottonseed oil is said to enhance the natural taste of food. Gujarat is prime state consuming over 6 lakh tonnes of cottonseed oil in consumer packs. Even though the states of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh are among the leading producers of Cotton seed oil, however the lack of awareness about the usage of cottonseed oil, has been a hindrance in its adoption. We have planned the 2nd conclave for cottonseed oil and meals in Hyderabad to reach-out to the common people and encourage them to use cottonseed oil for the day to day use.”

Mr. P. Koti Rao, Hon. Secretary AICOSCA and Director Tirumala Cotton & Agro Products Pvt. Ltd.added, “Cottonseed is a ‘Golden Goose’ for the farmers as 2/3rd portion forms cottonseed which yields valuable by products like Oil, cottonseed cake, linters, Hulls, soap and Free Fatty acids. For the local Telangana and Andhra Cuisine, cottonseed oil is light with non-oily consistency useful for deep frying. It is a housewife friendly oil as food cooked in cottonseed oil has a long frying and shelf life. We are hopeful that the people from Telangana & AP adopt cottonseed oil for their day to day cooking.”

Vote for nation, vote for Modi as 2019 elections are crucial, says Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman said “the elections of 2014 changed the course of discourse in India, democracy in India and the difference a thinking voter made. It was a landmark election, a landmark outcome that brought a government that has shown what it can achieve in five years.”

But the win of 2014 is not complete. The system has changed, the mindset has changed, and you cannot leave India at this stage, she said and told the audience of professionals that the elections of 2019 are more critical than 2014.

Pointing towards the selfie corner set up by team of TFM that had Modi’s full-length picture with a message ‘My vote for nation, My vote for Modi, Let us do this’ the defence minister said 2019 election is for the nation.

She was cheered throughout her speech as the minister listed out reason for Narendra Modi’s return as the prime minister. Nirmala Sitharaman said Modi has made the world listen to India, earned respect for Indians on global stage where ‘we walk with head held high’.

If we do not bring back Modi there is a danger of India going 50 years back in every sense, she said. Prime Minister Modi is responding to India’s needs and cleaning the system, she said and asked the voters to give him a chance again.

The meeting was addressed by Telangana BJP unit chief K Laxman and TFM’s Yoganand who spoke on Modi government’s countless schemes for every walks of life.
Laxman was very emphatic on tax reforms and how Modi government has taken aggressive stand against nagging terrorism from across the border.

Yoganand in his remarks made a detailed appeal to the educated voters to go out and vote. He said the menace of vote buying has made sellers of votes a majority and those who want to bring change but do not vote have become a minority.

Celebrations of International Women’s Day 2019 Women Development and Child Welfare Department

At the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality, this year the International Women’s Day theme centers the efforts of women and girls, for the women and girls, in the arena of both social and technological innovations by playing a decisive role in emerging sectors. The theme being, “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”, it is to be made sure that smart solutions are built that go beyond acknowledging the gender gaps and that the needs of men and women are equally addressed. From doing so, we are sure to further the race for gender equality to its finishing line by 2030 as per the Sustainable Development Goals.
So when we talk about innovation, what does it really mean to innovate? While research confirms that women are often the ones who miss out on services and accessibility to resources that eventually affects their rights and well-being, it is important to realize and recognize their ideas, contribution and experiences to equally influence the design and implementation of the innovations that shape our future societies.
Historically, International Women’s Day has been not only about inspiring but also about rising to the common causes. From the millions of women mobilizing for women’s suffrage and labour rights in 1911 when the first International Women’s Day was celebrated, to the demanding of women’s right to vote in the United States in 1920 and driving political change in the Dominican Republic in 1960, and to the day that awareness on women related issue are spread across the world – the World looks a lot different as we know.

M.Jagadeeshwar , IAS, Principal Secretary, WCD & SC Department

On this International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating women around the world who have insisted on a better world and persisted in the face of adversity – women who have not only advanced their rights through innovations but also by standing firm against social evils like Child Marriages. Child marriage is a critical problem in India, and specifically in Telangana, as we know, and it not only deserves our attention but a serious call for planned interventions. This can only be possible if we understand our rights and unite as community members to advocate for the same. Across five rural Indian states, Women’s Peer Groups are working to end child marriage in their communities. In community meetings, these leaders are asking participants to pledge that they won’t have their daughters married underage—or attend such weddings. After the pledging ceremony, they lead rallies in their villages to spread awareness about the negative impacts of child marriage. Such similar initiatives must be collectively taken up by us to put an end to all social evils.
Women Development and Child Welfare Department in collaboration with Department of Language and Culture is celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March 2019 at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad at 4:00 pm. On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, 21 eminent women of Telangana are receiving “Visishta Mahila Puraskaram”.
