Rio hero Deepa Malik to speak to global delegates at Knowledge Day

'India has emerged as one of the largest and most significant poultry players in the world. Our focus has always been on exploring ways to further this phenomenal growth'

Hyderabad, November 21, 2016: The 10th edition of Poultry India's Knowledge Day and Expo will leave an indelible mark for several reasons when the globally recognised events will be held from November 22-25, 2016 here at the Novotel Convention Centre and HITEX Exhibition Center respectively. Not only is this the 10th Anniversary of the two influential events that have shaped the Indian poultry industry to become one of the biggest in South Asia, it has also attracted a record 200 Indian and 50 international exhibitors from more than 32 nations who have confirmed their participation across more than 15,900 sqm of exhibition space.Hon’ble Shri Eatala Rajender, Honourable Minister of Finance & Planning, Small Savings, State Lotteries, Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology, Civil Supplies Govt of Telangana and Hon’ble Shri Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Honourable Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Govt. of Telangana will attend.Held a day before Poultry India Expo, is Knowledge Day 2016 the technical seminar which has attracted world renowned speakers who will shed light on various factors that still beset India's Poultry Industry. Nearly 800 industry delegates from India and South Asian and South East nations have already registered to attend the event which begins at 9am.

Making a premiere appearance in Hyderabad and the Knowledge Day is Deepa Malik, mother of two, who overcame a spinal tumour, 31 surgeries and 183 stitches to win India a Silver medal in the women's Shot-Putt at the Rio Paralympics in September this year.Deepa has never been daunted by adversity. Anyone else would have had a meltdown when told as a 26-year-old that her choice was between paralysis and death. A budding sportswoman and cricketer for Rajasthan despite suffering paralytic shocks since the age of eight Deepa, through sheer grit however, soared above these difficulties and proved nothing can go wrong if you have the will and determination to succeed. On the advice of her dietician she began eating 8 eggs and half a kilogram of chicken every day for nine months, building enough protein and muscle strength at the age of 46 to throw the shot-putt to the silver medal place. She believes that alongside her tremendous determination and will to fight, it is the Vitamin D3 and proteins from eggs and chicken that lent a helping hand towards her Rio Silver. This is what she will be saying to the nearly 800 poultry industry delegates from all over the world who will be part of the 10th celebratory anniversary of Knowledge Day being held under the theme 'Decade to Inspire'
Harish Garware, President, Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers - Organisers - and member of the Executive Advisory Committee said: "The two path-breaking Poultry India events are celebrating a decade which was full of inspiration which will be further enhanced when Deepa Malik speaks on Knowledge Day of what can happen with a little egg, a little chicken and lots of determination to succeed.

"You will be pleased to know that Poultry India has now metamorphosed into being South Asia's biggest exhibition that brings together some of the finest names in the global poultry industry. Indiahas emerged as one of the largest and most significant poultry players in the world. Our focus has always been on exploring ways to further this phenomenal growth. Poultry India exhibition and Knowledge Day are to us key pegs in this endeavour. With the Poultry sector in India now well on its way of growth trajectory we now want a sustainable growth for all through accelerated integration with the world markets. These are our focus areas. We are certain our 10th anniversary event - and through it, the poultry sector - will receive positive attention in the form of a conducive regulatory environment in the country to attain these two focus areas."India is the second largest egg and third largest broiler-chicken producer in the world — 65,000 million eggs and 3.8 million tonne of poultry meat a year. The market is estimated to be worth about Rs 90,000 crore.

Many industry watchers however believe India’s poultry players have the potential to give tough competition to major poultry producing countries if the input costs were contained. There is a huge scope to grow further from the present estimates of 11-14 percent per annum. Rural demand is picking up, which can also support the overall demand in the coming years. According to latest reports, per capita consumption of chicken meat is around 4 kg and eggs is 57 in India, way below a global per capita average of 11.2 kg meat and 155 eggs.Mr. Garware was speaking at today’s Press Conference to announce the launch of this year’s event. Also present at the briefing were: Dr.G.Ranjith Reddy, Chairman – SR Hatcheries & President, Poultry Breeders Association of Telangana; Mr.D.Ram Reddy, Managing Director – Sneha Farms, Mr.Anil Dhumal, Chairman – Dhumal Industries,
Mr.P. Chakradhar Rao, Managing Director – Chakra Group among others.Knowledge Day is a full-day affair beginning 9 AM and is dedicated to bringing about a change in the way farmers further the poultry sector. Some of the world’s finest minds will speak on the science of poultry and latest innovations in the fields of breeding, hygiene, nutrition, animal health, poultry equipment and branding.Poultry India as an organisation is making a significant change and have gone beyond being called organizers of this exhibition. “We have taken up the cause to fight the problem of Protein Deficiency in the country,” Mr Garware said. “As many of you already are aware we launched the Protein Awareness Campaign in September last year and have received tremendous response from the media as they very much appreciated our efforts towards this noble cause.
Poultry India is also recommending that the GST structure be tailored to help Indian farmers receive benefits from India-produced Poultry Equipment, keeping in mind the Prime Minister's Make In India Mantra. There should be a clear classification to end unnecessary disputes over Customs Duties. Taxes on Eggs and Chicken meat should be on par with other Food consumables like grain and dal."Here I'd like to congratulate the Telangana Government which has taken this issue up to the Central Government on behalf of the states poultry farmers. We are sure we will receive some good news on this front soon," said Dr.G. Ranjith Reddy, Chairman – SR Hatcheries & President, Poultry Breeders Association of Telangana.
D.Ram Reddy, Managing Director, Sneha Farms said: "I am extremely happy that Poultry India Expo has reached great heights from humble beginnings 10 years ago. I am also happy that Hyderabad continues to be a venue of choice for this global event and I thank the Telangana government for providing us good support."
